At Blackheath Prep, our children explore the amazing natural world through regular Forest School sessions run by our qualified Forest School Leaders.

While children enjoy the freedom to express themselves and gain a practical understanding of the natural world around them, we nurture confident, resilient, independent and creative learners.

In Forest School, children enjoy a positive, enriching learning experience where they are allowed – and even encouraged – to get messy. Activities including building dens, climbing trees, balancing on logs, playing with mud, using tools, pond dipping, bird watching, bug hunting and identifying trees and plants – all within the school grounds.

Children also have the opportunity to explore our Garden of Imagination, grow in our vegetable garden and go on adventures in our very own mini woodland.

Teamwork and helping others is actively encouraged, and learning is hands-on to build self esteem. Children have the opportunity to experience decision-making and managing risk while in a safe space.

Learning outside encourages children to reconnect with nature and promotes physical, mental and emotional health and improved communication and problem-solving skills.

We are very proud to be able to offer Forest School to our pupils.
