About Us

We are a busy, thriving and happy school with 390 boys and girls aged 3 to 11.

Originally founded as Christ’s College, in 1823, our school occupies a beautiful five-acre site close to Blackheath Village. Its original Georgian and Victorian buildings have been extended and adapted to include large playgrounds and extensive playing fields, sports facilities and two Forest School areas.

Blackheath Prep provides an exceptional quality of education for every child. We have outstanding facilities, a formidable track record in academic success and impressive achievements in Music, Sport, Drama and Art. Our overarching priority is our children’s happiness and wellbeing.

Children go on to a range of independent and maintained secondary schools, with a large proportion (at least 50% of the cohort over the past five years) being awarded academic scholarships at leading independent schools. A large number of children are also awarded scholarships in Art, Drama, Music and Sport.

The school was inspected in June 2019 and both the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements and the quality of pupils’ personal development were judged to be excellent.

Working at Blackheath Prep
At Blackheath Prep, we employ around 100 staff in a wide range of teaching, administrative and support roles. We provide a friendly, respectful and supportive working environment for all our staff. As part of the Eltham College Family of Schools, all staff at Blackheath Prep are employed by Eltham College.
