Blackheath Prep’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA) plays a vital role in building positive links between home, the school and our local community. PTFA volunteers work hard all year round to enrich the social aspects of our school through a varied programme of events. They also raise funds for school activities and our partner charities.

Events
A colourful programme of events take place throughout the year, ranging from the popular Christmas and summer fairs, discos, ice-cream sales and playground tea parties to the evening socials for parents, the annual quiz night and second-hand uniform sales. The PTFA’S fundraising efforts have raised money for many different projects and in recent years have funded two adventure playgrounds at school as well as musical instruments for our Strings, Wind and Brass programmes. Most recently, the PTFA funded the development of our Garden of Imagination used by pupils for Forest School activities.

Forthcoming PTFA organised events can be found here

Second-hand uniform sales
Blackheath Prep actively encourages second-hand uniform sales. These aim to:

  • provide a convenient way for parents to obtain uniform at a reduced cost
  • encourage the re-use and recycling of uniforms to reduce our impact on the environment
  • raise money for Blackheath Prep and for SAWA (a charity that supports schools in Zimbabwe)

Second-hand uniform sales take place every term and are organised by a team of parent volunteers who are always on hand to provide friendly advice. They are also available after school drop off on a Friday morning at the store in the Pavilion and can respond to uniform requests from parents via email, text and in person in the school playground.

Unsold items are donated to South African Women’s Aid (SAWA), a registered charity run by Rosemary Mlambo, the grandparent of one of our alumni. Surplus school clothing is distributed to two schools in Harare. The PTFA assists with the shipping costs of this by donating the proceeds from every alternate playground sale to SAWA.
